Art Exchange at LIFE House.

We were on FIRE!

No, not literally. But, the boys did let their talent shine while creating 2 murals at Villa of Hope. On Tuesday evening, November 29th, 11 boys from McQuaid and 14 boys from the VILLA’s LIFE House got together to spend a few hours painting and playing basketball. LIFE (Live In Freedom Early) House is a residential program for young men with substance use disorders. It offers the chance for recovery from addiction and an opportunity to learn new ways to live a healthy and successful life.

With the help of visiting artist, Stacy Maid, the boys created individual flame canvases using different colors and styles, of course. In the end, we blended all the canvases into two beautiful murals–one for LIFE House and one for McQuaid.

As we were leaving, the boys were saying good-bye to each other while high-fiving and wishing each other good luck. We were so proud of how the two groups mingled and made the most of their evening together.

Next time you’re at school, ask about the LIFE House “Flame” mural.

Subway Circle Encampment Clean Up

A collaborative partnership between Campus Ministry, Mothers for Others and our Arrupe Society.

Person Centered Housing Options planned their Fall Clean-Up on Saturday morning, November 5th at 8:30am. It was a great opportunity to show our fellow homeless citizens that we care for their environment and shows our fair city that we love it!

Thomas Greiner, Director, Social Justice and Magis Program and Office of Campus Ministry, began the event with a parable of the Good Samaritan then a prayer.

More than 30 of us from DHS, PCHO, McQ, and the U of R gathered at the Subway Circle to get our supplies, have some breakfast pizza & coffee, then headed over to the encampments where we picked up litter and shared inflatable mattresses from the Knights of Columbus.
